napkin skin

Here’s a great example by Eylon Stroh of some skinning of a Flex 2 application. It’s taken a step further by using programmatic skinning. A hand-drawn feeling theme is on my “to be created” list, so it’s neat seeing something similar to what I had in mind.

WMP11 UI

Based on the quick drop down sample I made a while ago, I am going to create a Vista:Windows Media Player 11 theme. Once I wrap that up I think I’ll create some themes using only CSS.

WMP 11 Drop Down Skin

wmpDropDown

A user on the Flex Components Yahoo Group asked about how to skin a pop up box to have an arrow at the bottom of the box. More specifically how to make it look like a pop up button in Windows Media Player 11. I made a quick sample by skinning a combo box using CSS and Flash. You can view it here and download the source here.

I’m getting close to finishing up the iTunes 7 theme, so maybe I’ll make a Windows Media Player 11 Theme to expand upon this drop down skin. I work on a Mac, so I’ll have to go by screenshots available online.

iTunes 7 Theme

iTunes 7 UI

Now that I’ve actually got the site live I figured I had better start filling those “Coming Soon” spots. Along with creating unique themes, I thought I’d mimic some well executed themes from popular applications. One of these being the latest release of iTunes.

The latest release has been simplified in look and now offers a few extras. The iTunes theme I want to put together will be a little more involved, including icons and navigation variations, but I will make a more basic version available as soon as I can.

Keep in mind the “Obsidian” theme took me 20-30 hours, but it was the first theme I created and I’m getting a better handle on the work flow.
